  • Immunomodulation of Cardio-Renal Function

    Hypertension and vascular disease are important consequences of chronic kidney disease (CKD), and they are major contributors to its high morbidity and mortality. The link between inflammation in CKD and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is widely recognized, but its pathophysiological basis is still unclear, as is the relationship of inflammation in CKD to innate and adaptive immunity. In this symposium we will focus on cardio-renal pathophysiology and its links with immunopathology and inflammation.

    ISN Forefronts Symposia focus on emerging and ground-breaking research. They gather nephrologists and active investigators from surrounding medical areas to explore new scientific domains and review the latest developments in kidney disease.

  • Shenzhen, China

    Shenzhen is located in Guangdong province, adjacent to Hong Kong and bordering Dongguan city and Huizhou city. As China’s first Special Economic Zone, Shenzhen’s pleasant climate and picturesque coastal and mountain scenery have turned it into an attractive travel destination, which earned a place on The New York Times’ list of the world's 31 must-visit destinations. It is also a major transport hub for travellers entering and departing China.

ISN Forefronts Symposia

The ISN Forefronts Symposia were initiated by key ISN leaders Roscoe “Ike” Robinson, Don Seldin, Gerhard Giebisch and others in 1984. The first symposium was held in 1986 and since then, ISN has organized more than 25 symposia (see annex) which have not only been highly stimulating exchanges of scientific knowledge but have introduced basic science to a wider nephrological audience. The program was directed by Gerhard Giebisch until 1995 and since then led by HeiniMurer and Bob Alpern. In 2004, a Forefronts Core Committee was established, bringing together a group of people with different backgrounds to ensure the future of ISN Forefronts. The committee is now chaired by Kai-UweEckardt from Germany.

The ISN Forefronts Symposia series is fundamentally designed to advance scientific nephrology in pace with programs in clinical nephrology. Through highly interactive symposia, scientific knowledge is exchanged and advanced by intermingling nephrologists with non-nephrologists from interrelated disciplines as well as basic and clinical scientists.

Therefore, ISN Forefronts Symposia are deliberately limited in scope to allow for high levels of interaction, deep dialogue plenty of time for focused exchange. Each symposium aims to attract no more than 100 – 250 active scientists.
